Many people, throughout some stage of their life, think about their ‘dream property’. While home renovations can improve the interior of the property, landscaping renovations will increase the appeal of the exterior. Having a great looking garden is like ‘icing on the cake’ for an overall great looking property, as it is the first thing that guests will see (and notice) when arriving to your property. A property that has an overcrowded or uncompleted garden doesn’t exactly make a good first impression to the home – so when you are thinking about increasing the overall look of your home, start on the exterior first.

The great thing about landscaping your front and back garden is that there is no ‘standard’ package – all new landscape designs are sketched from scratch, therefore they are completely customised to each individual’s needs and specifications. You have the option to choose as much or as little details in your property – obviously this will depend on what your landscaping ideas are, and what your budget is.

When it comes to choosing your landscape designer for your new garden design, there are a few main questions you need to keep in mind – how much landscaping experience do they have? Do they have a diploma in horticulture? How long has their business been successfully operating for? Do they have some past work they can show me? Searching online for your landscape designer is probably the best option, as it will easily answer most (if not all) of the questions you have.

Once you have chosen your landscape designer, the next step is to sit down and have a one-on-one consultation with them. This will involve them visiting your property, accessing the situation and sitting down with you to discuss landscaping ideas. In this consultation, you will be able to bounce ideas off one another, in order to come up with the best garden design for your property.

Your garden designer may suggest some garden ideas that you never thought of before, such as: new lawns, outdoor lighting, retaining walls, timber fencing, garden edging, cobblestones and garden paths. Whether you have any of these features in your new garden or not will entirely depend on what budget you have, and the space you have to work with.

The next step is for the landscape designer to sketch up some plans for your new garden, and at this point they will normally provide an estimate cost for the project. At this point, if you don’t feel your landscape designer is meeting your expectations – move on! Moving on to another landscape designer at this point may eliminate a lot of disappointment (if you have second thoughts about your current designer).

However, if you are happy with the sketches and costs, your new garden design project will begin! Luckily, most landscapers provide a complete project management service; so that you can sit back, relax, and let them do all of the organisation and hard work – this involves things such as organising sub-contractors, and sourcing the plants for the garden.

The final step in the landscaping process is the completion of your new garden! This is all a much easier process to go through if you hire a landscape company, rather than trying a do-it-yourself method. To start your landscape design project off, contact your local landscaper today and arrange your first consultation.
